A German delegation visited KCCI (the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry) in September 2021 to assess new business and investment opportunities in the region. The delegation was led by Oliver Oehms, the CEO of AHK – the German-Emirati Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Other delegates present included Holger Ziegeler, Consul General at the German Consulate General in Karachi (2020-2022), along with M. Shariq Vohra and M. Saqib Goodluck, President and Senior Vice President of KCCI respectively. You can learn more about KCCI in the PDF attachment to this post.
The visit came at a time when Germany and Pakistan were celebrating bilateral relations of 70 years and sought to develop and strengthen ties between the business communities of Karachi and Germany.
Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI)
Participants in the visit included members of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI). The embedded short video contains a brief introduction to the OICCI.
The Secretary General and CEO of the OICCI, M. Abdul Aleem, shared a presentation at the meeting. The presentation focused on Pakistan’s liberal policies for foreign direct investment and highlighted the fantastic investment opportunities available in Karachi for overseas investors.
Business Partnerships
At a speech made on the occasion of the visit, Oliver Oehms expressed his view that this would be the beginning of a promising bilateral journey for Germany with loyal partners in Pakistan. He followed on to mention how keen the business community in Germany was to develop new contacts and partnerships with their counterparts in Karachi. The port city of Karachi currently contributes to over half of the country’s exports and over 60% of revenue to the national exchequer. Investment Opportunities in Pakistan
The longer-term view taken to investment in Karachi and across Pakistan has already reaped benefits for OICCI members. Testament to this is the fact that over US$18 billion has been reinvested in the region by OICCI members in the past nine years, exceeding inflow from foreign direct investment. A 2021 Business Confidence Index Survey also showed an upswing of 59% based on the same survey the previous year. Technology and business are the primary focus for investors in Pakistan.
